I am due for a phone upgrade. A number of people I know shunted their Blackberries last year because they were slower than than peak hour traffic on the N1. Have things improved enough on the Vodacom network to consider a Blackberry now?

My girlfriend has a BB with BIS and it works pretty well overall, ive used it a couple times just to mess around and it never seems to be slow or anything! Not sure if it has anything to do that we are from PE but yea :)

I am in JHB. Email is perfect, internet browsing can be slow at times during peak hours.

Just avoid getting a BB with MTN. Its a very painful experience. My wife's BB is on vodacom and speeds are acceptable.

Just to put things into perspective, MTN is now going throught the same problem VC experienced last year when the VC BIS network was almost on its knees with speeds even slower than a dial-up modem.

VC has managed to fix and they at least communicated with forumites via the Reps and to be honest, their BIS offering is fine.

MTN on the other hand does not even acknowledge the problems on BIS, completely ignore forumites, not a single MTN Rep has even commented on the issues with MTN BIS.

I have a MTN Storm 2 with 3G capability and get speeds of 6kbps.

Seeing is believing

My other BlackBerry is the VC 8520 and it is only GPRS and it is faster the the MTN Storm 2 with 3G.

I have posted the proof in the link above as most people would not believe this to be possible.

Avoid MTN BlackBerry Internet Service, cause there is no service being provided.

Blackberry users on Vodacom BIS, please give me your experience with browsing, email, gtalk and BBMaps.. (I'm about to choose a 24 months contract and its either MTN BIS or VC BIS, WHICH SHOULD I DEFINITELY CHOOSE?) thanks in advance!

Right now, DEFINITELY, then VC is the way to go, avoid MTN right now.

I have two BlackBerry's, Storm 2 / 9520 (3G) on MTN and Curve 8520 (GPRS) on VC.

I am able to load sites on my supposedly slower 8520 from VC that times out on my MTN Storm 2 on 3G - FACTS!

Seeing is believing, living proof of what you can Currently experience from the pathetic MTN BIS.

At least when VC were having the same issues as what MTN is having now their Reps responded in the forum.

Not the case with MTN reps who are completely oblivious to any problems on MTN BIS.

My advice: AVOID MTN BIS and live a lot less stressful life.
