Blackberry pearl!

I thought they gonna name it Crapberry? Is it still Blackberry?

Sweet phone - just wish an operator would release it here. :o

Yeah - some nice new features... but there's no excuse for not including a decent camera for example (thats old hat)... The trackball sounds nice and it sounds like they have set the stage for more intuitive interfaces from competitors... but if they couldn't release a really feature rich version from day 1...

The blackberry is primality targeted at the business crowd - not really a target market that screams I want a camera so the 1.3 MP one will probably do for most people taking quick snaps.

As far as I'm concerned that last thing I ever want is an all-in-one device. Camera phones are at best mediocre.

Agreed, my < R2500 Sony W70 is vastly better than any camera phone I've seen.

That said, I've used the 1.3 on the 6680 on the odd occasion to good effect, so it has a place. I just never thought I'd see the day it had a place on a BlackBerry :(

Granted, it can be disabled via BES policies (as can the memory card), but still - I was rather fond of the fact that no BB had a camera, camera's were not a serious business tool to put on a phone.

Oh well, guess this means I'm and old fart who doesn't move with the times

I agree, but 2Mp is not rocketscience - no need for flash, but 2Mp would be nice.

If I remember their device roadmap I think that get's bumped up - but I really wouldn't want to be quoted on that at all - partly because I don't always have the best memory and partly because nothing is set in stone until products get delivered.

I think the 1.3 was to test the waters....

Realistically, the Pearl and BIS 2.x is RIM's first real push towards the individual market, so it's not surprising that they would be a little conservative and then respond to the demand.

What I like about blackberry is it sync's nicely with my mac and it always works. As long as they dont change those aspects I'll be happy.

Ive seen atleast 2 people using it, sure it will be out here early next year;)

Methinks I might just be able to guess which 2 people you're refering to 'ey ;)

Now if only they could sort out all that spam . .

The image spam is being resolved with the launch of BIS 2.1 ;)

Don't worry, I'm also getting it - thankfully I know where the delete and enter buttons are so 2 clicks and I'm sorted :D

Yeah - I also know how to delete but that doesnt help much, image spam is only a fraction of the spam - there is no filtering! Hello - its almost 2007! All my emails get scrubbed by gmail where possible with the obvious exception of the vodacome one.

What gets my goat is I've never even given out that email address and it still gets spammed. I had our accounts deleted, I recreated them and within hours . . boom . . spam. I can also assure we dont use addresses that are susceptible to a dictionary attack so they have to be getting their addresses from somewhere.

I hear you, my BIS account (which exists only for testing purposes) is like yours - never posted anywhere and won't be found using any english dictionary. The only way it could be "found" was to just build up the address using ever possible combination of numbers and letters.

That said - it IS being spammed and it IS annoying. Using filters is not any real use since the specifics of the spam vary too much for that. The only option at the moment is the arrival of BIS 2.1 - and thankfully that shouldn't be long.

Spammers are getting clever these days, I've had gmail practically since inception and up until a few months ago it had never once failed to catch spam.

Touch wood, the rate at which I recieve spam on my BIS account seems to be slowing down.

Well there are other ways - the account is in the headers of each email you send regardless of from or reply to address but I dont think a spammer is going to go through all the effort to dig it out.

Another possibility is that someone along the chain is supplementing their salary.

Hehehehehe ....
You're right, I should have phrased it a bit better ....

I don't send email from my BIS account (I'm on a BES) so there's no emails going out to pick it up off of the headers, and I don't think anyone at RIM or Voda would want so many unhappy customers.

Then again, strange world we live in, anything is possible - at least it will go away soon.

I tend to have alot of respect for Bwana's opinion... so.. as a person who has never owned a Blackberry - would you recommend I consider one as my next phone?
I do like the PDA type thing and after my Windows mobile device was stolen, I haven't owned a PDA. I must admit I liked the fact that there was lots of windows based software for it... and I am keen on the GPS thing in the new ones (hp et al) but am also thinking about a Blackberry since i realised that alot of those things tend to become white elephants... I may get a seperate gps unit.
Whats your opinion Bwana?
