BlackBerry Q10 first impressions

For fans of the physical BlackBerry keyboard, the smartphone maker has promised the BlackBerry Q10

We do not need special data packages anymore. With Cell C one can get 300 MB for R45. That is enough data for most users. For R75 you can get 500MB. Why bother with slower/throttled BIS? People must get their minds off R60 BIS.

The only reason [-]people[/-] kids seem have BBs these days is because of the "R60 BIS" ...or those unfortunate guys with a BB as a company phone. I personally miss the keyboard on my BB Bold. Best keyboard on a cellphone by a country mile. Android is great but typing on an unresponsive glass screen is very meh. Every time I happen to come across my old Bold laying in the drawer I'm tempted to use it again simply because of the keyboard.

That Q10 looks quite tempting  ...or am I not allowed to judge a phone by it's keyboard :p

I love the KB on my 9900 and it looks the same. The only difference is that its missing the rollerball and that row of function buttons (Yes, BBbutton, back, no)

Are there any other smartphones these days that comes with a physical keyboard? The missus hate typing on an iPhone and uses a bluetooth keyboard sometimes!

Definately a market for the physicial keyboard, I do miss the row of function buttons though... If they can somehow make the experience good without them, great, if not maybe they should considor a model with it... Although that trackpad is probably the failure point in 70% of BBs

I also don't like touch screen phones, and sadly there aren't any phones on the market that interest me in the least. 1 day battery life - no thanks.

With BIS dodoing, and my need of a physical keyboard, my next phone may be a Samsung Galaxy Ch@t instead of this.

+1

It doesn't make sense complaining about BIS on the new BB's. WHY would anyone want to pay R6000 - R8000 for a device and then want to limit its functionality with crappy BIS. I have a S3 but would love to go back to BB just for the keyboard. I just never wanna see that darn clock on the screen again (anyone who has ever worked on a BB would know what I'm talking about).

There appears to be no touch pad thingy above the keyboard - i hope the ui doesnt require too much movement from keyboard to the screen (or i could be talking complete bollocks - have never used a bb before)

Exactly. BIS is for cheapies. 8520. Anyone getting a Bold level device or a top of the range Z10 type device surely can afford to pay for quality data to use a top-end device to its full abilities. BIS on the Z10 and Q10 is just redicilous.

Agree. Miss my Bold 9000 keyboard. Hate typing on glass. On glass my backspace works overtime.

Looks like the fatter ugly sister of the Z10

Blackberry could have used more from the Porsche design in the Q10. To make a copy of the Bold 9900 running BB10 is not ideal and somewhat shortsighted. Too conservative. But despite all that the keyboard remains a huge drawcard for me.

What intrigues me is how Blackberry is going to market the Q10 at that time with current specs. The S4 will then also be available with 8 cores. The Q10 will have to come to market much cheaper or it WILL fail.

Yeah, competing with apple and samsung and they are already behind. Blackberry needs to find it's market and do that well.

An affordable, keyboard with 'free' BBM like services is what people are expecting...

I'm using the Q10. The pone is awesome. Speed is great. UI is cool and 10x better than before.

Only problem is limited apps in bb world
