How to Extend Battery Life on the BlackBerry Storm

Tested these.
1.) Quote "Dimming the Backlight Brightness on the screen to about 40% is all you need to do. It tripled my battery life without me having to stop using my Storm." I would set this to 10% as the screen is still bright enough.

2.) Quoting "I turned the 3G off and kept the Blackberry Storm at 2G. It saved my phone’s battery to twice the amount which now lasts for 4 days without charge." One can allways turn it back to 3G as needed.

3.) I found this extra capacity battery "Seidio Innocell Battery for BlackBerry Storm 9530 1600mAH". The Storms comes with a 1400mAH battery. Where can one get it cheaper than here for R522? http://more.take2.co.za/moreusa-sei...ckberry-storm-9530-curve-8900-b001ontlfw.html

1.) Thought this was useful information…

This will be, for many customers, the first Lithium-Ion Battery that they have used, and the most common cause of short battery life that we have experienced on the eForum is that customers have been conditioned to charge their batteries according to the best way to prolong a Nickel-Cadmium type battery. With the older batteries, it was recommend to fully charge the battery, and then let it run completely flat, and repeat this process several times. This is actually harmful to Lithium-Ion batteries, as they will not hold charge as well once they reach below 60% capacity, and if they run completely flat, there is a very good chance that they will not take charge again.

The Storm batteries are all sent out with 25% charge on them – however, due to something called “Digital Memory”, the phone will show the battery as being full, when it is not. These batteries benefit strongly from long consecutive charging periods. We have been recommending via the forum, that during the first week of using the Storm, it is placed on charge overnight, every night, or whenever possible. The benefits of this are cumulative, and everyone on the forum that has followed our overcharging tips have reported battery life increasing from 12 hours standby to 3 days standby.

2.) Found this too..

Hints and Tips to improve Battery Life

Battery life has been tested and will vary depending on how the phone is used. You will get three days’ use if you use it just for email, for example. The Storm is a sophisticated smart phone and can do a lot more and we know customers want to use many of these extra features such as watching films and browsing the web. Like any smart phone it takes battery power to use all of these multi-media functions. There are lots of small things you can do to improve the battery life that together will make a great difference. You can find hints and tips on improving the battery life on your Storm. To access this:

1. Select the main menu on the Storm
2. Swipe down to the “help” option and select it
3. Then select “Power, battery and memory”
4. Finally select the “extend battery life” option – some hints and tips on extending the battery life are listed here. These include:

· Set the backlight to remain on for a shorter period of time
· Reduce the brightness of the back light
· Switch off vibrating alerts
· Lower the volume of sound notifications
· Select shorter ring tones
· Close applications when they are no longer in use
