Blackberry Storm 9520 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread

MTN official update

Hi

I see now there is an official "MTN" .436 update at :

https://www.blackberry.com/Download...sionid=8134EA3E72B85D0A06945D125D5A5D5C.node1

Has anyone used this update.

How different is it from the "leaked" & auto update I mentioned in my previous post?
As mentioned b4 i could not see any "visible" changes with the auto-update I did.

Should I be doing the MTN update??

Astound ....help pls

tRoN,

Go to options, screen options and change the key indicator options.

Thanks Envy....it works.
Now i wonder if the option was never there before .436

The key indicator option became available from 5.0.0.428, was not present in .320 which the MTN Storm 2 shipped with.

I didn't get the mail, but my Storm 2 was updated automatically when I connected it to BBDM. I also do not have highlighted letters.

The other thing is that, after the upgrade, Nimbuzz does not want to connect/sign in!! I get an error message that says I must check the device network configuration....

Any advice?

Whenever you do an OS update/upgrade do a battery pull immediately afterwards, it solves a mulititude of sins ;)

You may want to delete and re-install Nimbuzz if the battery pull does not solve your woes.

Highlighted letters has already been addressed.

There may or may not be much differences between the leaked and official OS release.

Main thing is that the official release is sanctioned by your vendor (MTN) so running that is safe in that you will get support for _issues_ which may arise.

With leaks your on your own.

This update fixes the dropped calls, low call volume issues, so yes, I would suggest you do the update/upgrade and do a battery pull after booting up to the new OS.

This also provides the key indicator when typing, but must be enabled vi Options > Screen/Keyboard Options > Key Indicator - Always ;)

Battery life, you mileage might vary, I did not have this on for too long to really establish how good/bad it was.

I am on Hybrid OS 5.0.0.464 which is awesome for battery life and performance.

Astound

I actually had the "official" update done automatically when I connected to BBDM after being directed by an email from RIM to blackberry.com/update

Should I still do the "MTN" update?

@tRoN - What does your About screen indicate - 5.0.0.436?

I did a wipe and full install after backing up my apps/settings and restored them.

Hi Guys, seeing as this is the tricks & tips thread.

When entering an email address on a mail you dont have to go and look for the @ sign - Simply type name(space)company(space)co(space)za and it will show it as [email protected]
