Got a new torch today, got it home, synced my contacts, removed unused languages etc.

After reboot, the handset is just stuck on the loading screen. Doesn't boot up.
Tried a battery pull, soft reset etc, nothing, still stuck on boot.

any ideas?

I just got it so I guess I can return it tomorrow. First time I've had an OBF on any phone though…

I had simlar, took out the memory card, sim and battery. Left it off for 5 minutes and started it with only the battery and it booted.

Don't remove stuff if its not neccessary to remove it. You prabably removed a file needed by the phone.

Why did you want to remove a few kB of files if you have 12GB to play with?

all i did was remove the unused languages - a function thats apparently very dangerous to perform with desktop manager :-)

12GB on a torch? I think not. :erm:

I've done this on every BB i've owned without hassle, old habit I guess.
What I don't get is why the manager claims that there's no software available for the torch. I'll just swap it out tomorrow anyway.

That's what I say. Better to leave the files there. It doesn't take that much space. You can choose not to install those files when you update the firmware.

12GB = 4GB onboard + 8GB mSD

Or am I missing something here?

onboard is 512mb and mSD is 4GB

Also when i first plugged in, the desktop manager checked for updates and gave me the "no software available for your device" before I even attempted to remove anything.

*edit*
it also has 4GB eMMC onboard - but that's not for applications, just multimedia afaik.

If I remember it TELLS you it'll remove languages not used during setup - so that's not the issue,

Torch is one of those love/hate phones. You hate it because of all the quality issues, the build quality etc - but its an awesome phone and so logical.

I'd get get another - despite everyone I know having had an issue of some sort

Put the torchie back in its box, return it to the shop & order yourself a proper phone.

Any Android phone will do. :D

If you havent sorted it out yet then try this. Mine also froze today while I was installing latest unofficial OS and this worked.

I bought my wife one this week. The camera lens was cracked but she managed to get it swapped out the next day.

Got it sorted.
It's a strange phone, not a hardcore blackberry (smallish awkward keyboard) and not a great touch screen device, somewhere in the middle.
OS6 software is better than 5, but the hardware disappoints.
I guess torch2 will be better :-)

Had mine since October. Best phone I have ever had. I have also had no issues with build quality (maybe lucky).

There was a post earlier that commented on the small keyboard. The keyboard size is actually identical to other models.

My only downside is not a phone issue, but the slowness of VC BIS. Once on wireless the phone flies.

The keyboard is smaller than my old bold 9000, and the slider makes it a bit more awkward to use.
No complaints really, just niggles. To me it's just not a hardcore BB like the bold. I'd gladly trade it for a bold with OS6.

Fair enough, the Torch is my first BB, so my perspective is different. It has managed to turn me into a BB convert, which must say something about the phone. Had a iPhone for a while, did not turn me into an Apple fan, if you know what I mean. At the end though we all like the phone that suits our needs best.

@ assagai, I'll trade you my Bold 9700 with OS6 for the Torch.
Btw the keyboard is the same size as the 9700.

You are lucky you came out unscathed, Tobi.

Majority of iPhone users instantly become brainwashed and iDroids.

I recently lost two friends to Androids though.

However the phones are aimed at two different people : I take out my BB, check my shares, check the news, tap away on a work email, read a TIME article and they ... 'Play' virtual guitars, drink virtual beers, see how many time they can shake the phone in 30 seconds, talk to a virtyal cat that repeats things and other pointless tasks. Its like watching a todder with a new toy ...;)

They love to mention how many apps they have - but they really can keep 90% of the crap

*waits for flaming*
