Got an SMS today that I've been blacklisted for some unpaid maintenance a roommate was supposed to sort out like 2 years ago.
It's only like R200 and I'd be more than willing to just pay to remove this hassle from my life, I forsee a big fight to try get it removed.

My question is, is there any reason NOT to pay? like some kind of weird "admission of guilt" kinda thing?

Weird... surely it would have cost them more to blacklist you than to write it off?

also... surely someone contacted you in that 2 years?

can you be more specific?
What type of company is the debt owed to? How long ago, exactly?
Was it under your name?
How do you define blacklisted? Are you seeing a listing of this debt when you checked your credit bureau report? Or have you been declined credit by a credit provider?

An adverse listing doesn't cost too much.
But this usually disappears from the credit bureaus after a year.
Unless judgement was obtained in court - then it's 5 years
