I've got a problem and hope one of you can guide me in the right direction.

My office was robbed recently, and my Nokia Lumia 900 was stolen. I've got insurance and want to blacklist the phone to claim however it gets rather complicated:

The phone was given to me by MTN as a prize. I used the phone with my Virgin Mobile simcard (which was originally a MTN number) until I got my new Lumia 920. After getting my 920 I ported the number to Cell C.

So first I called MTN to blacklist it, but they said they have no records of me (because I've ported and they are deleted. They gave me a bulk blacklisting email to send to though. Those people told me that they can't do it and I should contact Cell C. I then phoned Cell C to try and they said it failed (but couldn't tell me why).

See, the problem is that the 900 has only been used with Virgin, but since I have ported the number. So Cell C can't pick up the phone ever being used on their network, and Virgin presumably won't have my records anymore because I've ported.

So what do I do?

p.s. The number is prepaid and has been for the duration of all this.

EDIT: The phone has no sim in it, and I DONT want the number that was used in there blocked as I am using that simcard in my 920.

AFAIK you blacklist the number and then the phone attached to that number. So if the number doesn't live in the phone anymore then bummer.

Sounds like this one is gonna go to school fees, but is there even a lesson to learn? :(

Forget the phone (IMEI). They can unblock them again at some shady back alley shop for a couple of bucks.

Just make sure the contract isn't going to get hit with some mystery calls to Timbuktu.

Might not have been clear initially, but it has no simcard in it. That sim card is in my 920.
But there has to be a way to blacklist it? Else insurance is going to not work :(

Perhaps try phoning a consultant at your insurer and explain the situation. Hopefully they can understand the situation and why blacklisting isn't possible.

Interesting thread. Was going to ask something similar. A friend of mine was using an old Nokia Music Express. Had a number Riccad in my moms name. She needs the phone black listed. The police said that she needs to get a number from Vodacom then can only be done... What happens if a crima had to be committed in the mean time, would my mom be responsible for the crime as it's riccad in her name?
