full article:The South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary and Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande said South Africa’s professors are anti-ANC and he has called on members of the Tripartite Alliance to balance the scales.
On Wednesday, Nzimande addressed the SACP’s Special National Congress and spoke about a regime change agenda within the country’s NGOs.
His comments about the academia were made after the University of Johannesburg’s vice chancellor congratulated the SACP for ideological consciousness.
Nzimande said South Africa’s academia has not transformed.
“There are very few professors who are sympathetic to the movement, it’s unheard-of. It’s in the nature of the university for professors to be sympathetic to different kinds of ideological, but it’s like largely anti-ANC. We’ve hostile lecture rooms.”
Nzimande said it’s up to black students to complete their PhDs and enter the field.
“Eight-three percent of professors in South Africa are white. YCA, PYA, please Sasco, continue to do your master and PhDs, we want cadres of the movement as lecturers and professors.
He insisted his comments were not made as the minister but rather as an SACP official.
Nzimande has warned that a fracture in the tripartite alliance would leave each of the partners vulnerable to collapse, or what he called “corporate capture”.
