Blaming whites not the way forward

Blaming anyone else is always the easy way out.

Instead people should take responsibility for their own actions and work towards self improvement

I can not speak for other whites, and I appologise if my comment came across as a generalisation of non-whites. But my parents encouraged me to study. They didn't rely on (in fact they didn't even receive) government grants. They led through example that you are responsible for your own destiny. Sitting on your back side with outstretched hands won't make you rich.

My wife does teach the fishing, along with many other wonderful teachers (all of whom are non-white). And there are at least a few students who actually wanted to learn to fish. These are not the problem, the problem are the others who have a feeling of entitlement, instilled by their parents. Many white people might also feel this way on the other end of the spectrum and I can assure you their mentality of "I am white therefor I am better" irritates me just as much if not more.

The only way we can better this country for everyone is to work together. Let me repeat that: we have to WORK TOGETHER. "Work" and "together" goes hand in hand. If only one part of the population works and the other part merely sits with outstretched hands, nothing will ever change. And by "parts" I don't mean parts necessarily divided on skin colour lines.
But the change needs to start at the home, where parents teach their children the necessity of pulling their own weight. Because if you don't, you are just a burdon to society.

But where do they get this idea from, surely kids don't go through life assuming they will be free loaders all through life?

This is what I too thought. But apparently they learn this from their parents. Granted as yebocan said, especially in the cape flats areas, drugs and crime are big problems. Many of the kids are raised by grandparents as one parent is typically in jail and the other is constantly on drugs. Government grants are provided to these people, so they feel they do not need to work. The children see this and accepts this as the way life works.

I think anybody who wants to succeed in life needs to copy somebody who is successful, first of all by respecting them enough to consider them an equal, and not just some white devil who stole their land. Try and teach them English, they refuse. Try and teach them history, it's not their own history so they refuse. I remember growing up with the distinct impression that we were right at the bottom of the food chain, and anything you would ever achieve would be by some miraculous amount of determination, and even then failure would be likely (being measured up to inimitable role models). It wasn't true, but I believed it and it drove me to succeed. Today it's exactly the truth, even though no-one seems to believe it, to their peril.
