Just a question.
If one buy's a "new sealed" cell ie Note 4 or 5 and it's from Vodacom or MTN etc can one expect bloatware and non std start-up with their logo etc?

Vodacom has a lot more bloatware than MTN.

If you don't want bloatware get it from the orange store.

Yeah but when I turned my device on before inserting the SIM I don't recall seeing the branded wallpaper or boot screen. After I did they were there.

And similarly I needed info off a VC SIM so I put it into a phone that was using a CELLC SIM and suddenly it had the branded wallpaper and boot screen. Took it out and the boot screen vanished (but the wallpaper remained).

Don't have the ability to recheck all that and I guess my memory may have been warped but I could have sworn that's how it happened.

Memory must be fuzzy young friend, sim has nothing to do with all that rubbish, that's why it takes so long to get oem updates, your SP has to further bugger up the glorious android first, as if all of the oem bloat was not enough.

Happened on my sister's G3. Phone was clean from bloat and was a Cell C device. Put in the VC sim and the Vodacom apps and wallpapers appeared

She allowed VC settings to be installed. (normally received similar to an SMS. I normally ignore it.)

You sure? P8 lite did the same. Voda sim out in and if added the Wallpaper and apps. Had been running bloat less for a week without s sim.

This is how release cycle works...

Google releases Android to OEM's (Samsung)
- Samsung tests, make sure everything works with their hardware
- Loads Samsung pre-installed bloat

Samsung releases Touchwiz flavoured Android to Service Providers (Vodacom)
- Vodacom tests, make sure that the phone, hardware and modem works on the Vodacom network
- Adds watermark and MyVodacom app

Vodacom sells Touchwiz flavoured, Vodacom branded phone to Pho3nix
- Pho3nix starts up phone, with no SIM - Vodacom logo appear at startup, no SP bloat
- Pho3nix inserts Vodacom SIM when sim swap is done, Vodacom bloat installs
- Pho3nix complains about it
- Uninstalls and Disables as far as the eye can see
- Hap-Penis
