Using arch linux and when I build stuff from source stuff is usually pulled in from sourceforge mirrors. I dunno how mirrors get chosen (seems random) but I always have issues with waix.dl.sourceforge.net in Australia, it sucks donkey balls and driving me insane. Slow, time outs, corruption is the order of the day.

How can I ban/blacklist this site in a easy way so my box for all intense purposes does not even know it exists.

Now your talking IP tables I would think. I'm not too sharp with IP tables anymore, but should be straight forward to block that site permanently.

Gentoo is so hard, it doesn't even need a firewall. :p

I have never ever used a firewall on Linux desktop, never.
I did use it on a home server back in the day but that was ages ago.

Me neither.

Have read way too many horror stories of users troubleshooting a problem for a week, just to find out in the end that iptables was the culprit.

Not to worry, I spent a few hours on irc with the sourceforge staff and it's gonna get fixed by changing the ip geolocation settings. That waix site will be last mirror people get redirected to outside of australia so I did my good dead for the day.

You gotta love open source, direct access to admins & devs and the problem gets resolved quickly. My experiences with MS & Cisco has been the opposite.
