hey peeps ..

does anyone know how to block any webcam facilities for skype?

even better , i'd like to block it in total for windows xp.pro.sp3....

ports?
application block?

any ideas/suggestions are welcomed..

its a logitech usb camera - user might be clever enough to try other usb ports so windows might re-enable the ports....

i want this disabled permanently for this user.

may thanks

Take away the webcam?

If you do not have the authority to take away the webcam then you do not have the authority to block it.

daughter doing some naughty webcamming ;)

I would think he could just take it away if they are. So my guess is its either a female partner he is suspicious of, or someone on his network who is killing his latency while he games.

I cant think of many other reasons where he would lack the authority...

Co-worker wasting bandwidth . The webcam is left active the whole day for nothing . We can always let her buy her own prepaid cap at WA unshaped rate (grin)

Under "C:\Documents and Settings\USERID\Application Data\Skype\skype.userid" you'll find a config.xml file. You can disable video there, however you might want to change the permissions to read-only, as it might be possible for the user to re-enable it through Skype's settings dialogue.
Another way would be through group policy settings, similar to blocking USB storage devices.

have you tried webcam lock?....

For this, I've just started using webcam lock (www.webcamlock.net), it's a program that lets you control what programs/users can access the webcam and when... you can even set a password.. easy :D

You can of course simply disable video altogether in Skype's user settings -- many of us with restricted bandwidth (or not wanting to pay the mobile bandwidth charges gobbled up by Skype) do that.
