Bloemfontein - Police are confident that more arrests are likely in connection with the heist at the Bloemfontein Airport in which an undisclosed sum of money was stolen last week, a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Captain Elsa Gerber said police hoped that more arrests might follow. One suspect has been arrested and appeared in court.
Gerber said Zanile Joseph Sethetho, 35, was arrested on Saturday in an early morning raid on a house in Sebokeng near Vereeniging.
"Members of the Bloemfontein serious and violent crime unit with Vereeniging crime intelligence arrested the suspect," she said.
Gerber said police found two pistols and about R300 000 of the money that was stolen.
A gang of eight to ten robbers prevented a chartered aircraft from taking off at the Bloemfontein Airport after a security company had delivered the money to the plane.
The men stopped their bakkie in front of the Baron Beechcraft twin prop plane, preventing the pilot from taking off.
Gerber said Sethetho's case was postponed to July 27 for further investigation.
