Bloemfontein Wireless

How can it be profitable to sell internet at R250 per 1mbit (2gigs) Like Iclix when your DSL line rentals are R150 analog line rental + R400 for 4meg DSL (max)

Best case scenario you can hold 3x 1mbit clients on the DSL Line

I can understand how this could work in an area that supports 10mbit. But 4Mbit? please >.>

1Mbps Uncapped @ R 550
2Mbps Uncapped @ R 850

It depends if the client want low latency, telkom has no service in that area or just for people that want to download as much as they like. and not like the others, a fiber backbone :)

if you're in the city itself it might be worth it to use CellC 5gig prepaid deal. R250 pm

not true?

512kb shaped uncapped inclusive wifi internet for 300 pm?

i want to move over to iclix but their install costs are just a bit too high for me right now, anyone know where i could get second hand equipment?

512 kbps shaped uncapped - Yes, but unshaped coming soon, new equipment to be installed to handle unshaped connection

New equipment would cost you R 1000.00, PM if you need details.

when you mean shaped, is the internet speed throttled to what? is http also throttled? and which company offers 512kbps for R300pm?

We have a high-site on Naval Hill & TNC that is managed by Mainserve/N-Telecom. We use their services for Internet and WAN access. They have built a good wireless mesh / cluster over Bloem and surrounding areas and offer superior service, reliable connectivity. Contact Jaco: [email protected]

How is iclix for gaming? I know something like minecraft should work fine, but what about games like Call of Duty 4?

We use Airtelecom in Bloemfontein. You can contact [email protected] if you need more info. They have great products and really helped us with fast wireless where we could only get 384k DSL

I need internet access for a flat in Bainsvlei. Iclix came out to say they don't have line of sight for connectivity.

Would Airtelecom be an option? I am based in Cape Town so I was unfortunately not able to be present in Bloemfontein when iclix came to do the site inspection, but I continue to be under the impression that one should be able to install higher masts against the building?

Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Guys, I have noticed that this thread is quite old... very old actually! But I would like to resuscitate it as I am looking for uncapped LTE as my area in Bloem is far if it ever would get a fiber. I am based in Bloemside 1 which is just next to the M10, and it doesn’t seem ISP are interested in laying fiber to my area any time soon… So what is the best alternative for someone like me who doesn’t have R2.5k for installation, but prepared to pay R550 per month for uncapped unlimited wifi? I am only prepared to pay R1k for installation as I have 2 LTE/4G routers already.

As a fellow Bloemfonteiner, I'd suggest you check Rain's coverage map at rain.co.za. They have their awesome uncapped deal at R250 pm which gives you 19 hours of uncapped off peak access from 11pm till the next day (6pm).

For peak period, they charge R50 a GB, but you can set a spending limit for costs not to go haywire. Seeing that you already have 2 LTE routers just get a sim from them. :)

I'd say they are your best (and perhaps only) hope for a decent wireless experience.
