anyone know if it is possible to change the blu ray region code (not dvd) on a philips bdp 3000?

I have googled, but seem to only get old threads from 2009/10 that says it is not possible.

was wondering if there was any new info?

It's not possible at the moment because, as I understand it, the region coding checking is done in software and not in hardware. "Region Free" conversions like those from these or these guys are not actually region free, you need to change the players region to match the Blu-ray disc. I've settled to build HTPC with Anydvd HD and PowerDVD to watch hassle free region free Blu-rays.

It depends if you get a US model than its region 1 and uk model 2/3. Stuff in SA tv/players and such are usually UK so it will be 2/3

I had this model till recently (got taken out by a power surge), and I never got it right.

Blu-Ray is region A, B or C. We are region B, along with the UK and Australia, so a lot of stuff to choose from.
The good news is that Blu-Ray codes are not enforced anywhere near like DVD is.
Warner Brothers for example, rarely put regional codes on their Blu-Ray. Fox you always have to check on.
Here is a list I consult before I buy ...

It's a real bummer. One of the main inspirations to make me buy plasma and blu ray was after seeing a Dave Matthew and Tim Reynolds "live at radio city hall" blu ray. It was not avail in SA or UK, so got someone to pick it up in the US. Turns out it's region A - and only comes out in A, and I can't even watch it. I am really bummed out, as I reckon this could be the holy grail of blu ray music shows. Most ppl advised that I would be able to unlock code - but none of them realised that's not possible on the blu ray, only the dvd.

Add further insult, Dave Matthews is a South African.

It's crazy when you think that there was a time when this was a serious issue for dvd players. I guess you experiencing the first mover pain.
