Chairman, Howard Dembovsky, has said that the abuse of blue lights by so called “blue light brigades” had raised public anger. Far more than just an annoyance, though, the misuse of blue lights, coupled with aggressive and reckless driving, has led to serious accidents involving civilians. This behaviour could not be tolerated any longer, he said.

Even an ambulance, on its way to or from an accident scene, with sirens blaring and lights flashing, will slow down at a red robot. Just because their lights and sirens are going does not always mean that someone coming from the other way has seen them.
They know this and so slow down to a crawl of like 10kph. They know that even if someone's life is in danger, they still have a responsibility to protect the other road users.
So what meeting could ever be urgent enough, that you would skip a red traffic light at speeds high enough to put someone in ICU? The answer, Absolutely nothing, nothing could be important enough.
 
Would be right if only emergency vehicles ONLY were allowed the "blue lights" (metro/SAPS/Ambulances/Fire)

IMO these "V.I.P.s should be doing their jobs properly and thereby being liked by their voters and supporters. This would enable them to be "free of threat" and then they could act like any sane human.

The fact that they are (not all but many) backhanding, corrupted, false, fraudulent Aholes is the reason they fear for their lives and need the security.

Do the job honestly and with integrity and the people will follow and protect you.

I assume you're referring to the accident over the weekend... this urgent meeting was on a weekend? And the driver was taking the MEC there... without the MEC in the car? :confused:
Have any more details emerged regarding this supposed meeting?

The details so far: MEC was in the car. We can all presume that the likelyhood of the MEC having an important meeting of any kind over the weekend is really low. Even if there was an important meeting, there is still not justification to jumping a red robot.

Expecting people to reasonably move out of your way on open roads.... maybe. Ignore traffic laws? NOT A CHANCE!
 
I am disgusted by this abuse of privelege. I agree with the sentiments here that NO meeting by ANY official of government supercedes any citizen's basic right to life and right to safety. There is no reason whatsoever that these people deserve or need emergency lights.

Take the lights away away and let them drive in the traffic of the common man at 'grassroots' level that they so vociferously advocate to be in touch with!
 
Even when they 'grow up' & 'get a real job' they still drive like taxi drivers.
