Well besides having preordered myself a Wii on Liksang, I've been in contact with Nintendo SA who told me that they would become available between november and Feb (posted on this before).

Today I got in touch with Reggies Fourways (who stock quite a bit of Nintendo stuff) WRT Wii preorders. After making some calls, the guy at Reggies got back to me and told me that his contact at Nintendo SA says Wii will not be coming to SA because the price is too high and the competition in the market is too fierce. Only if the scenario changes and local demand for the Wii increases will they consider bringing it in.

The guy at Reggies then said that Reggies is considering bringing in their own Wii's in conjunction with Toys R Us. ****!!!!
 
He's talking bollocks. TRU/Reggies doesn't do any business with nintendo ZA anymore according to the buyers in Cape Town. (Tried to get a DS lite through them)

TRU / Reggies hasn't been getting any nintendo products in at all for over 4 months, They have old stock games and Game boy advances, but they don't even have any DS's or DS lites. On the other hand, Take2, BTGames and nintendo.co.za all have stock of the DS and preorders for the Wii.

I've also heard the rumours about other channels, but in the mean time, they haven't received a thing. I get the impression the margin on them isn't that great, hence they won't carry them.

In the email I received from Gareth at ninty ZA he reckons they're desparately trying to get them in before Christmas, possibly they'll be here a week after the Europe launch, which puts us and mid December.
 
The Wii should do well here ... wonder about how well the XBox 360 sold so far in S.A
 
Yeah, I guess it's difficult to launch with enouh hype to compete with 10 years of monopoly. I was just thinking about all the in store displays, every store has had time to get huge PS banners, and the 360's usuallby just get a few fake boxes.

@BC on the preorder, speak to nintendo.co.za, they reckon all pre-orders should be done through them, as there's no allocation yet.

Don't you just love the way people take us for fools in this country - like we are just going to believe them. I say we all boycott TRU and Reggies for these lies.

Looked at their websites to send them a copy of this thread. No "Contact us" on TRU. Reggies have an email address and it's [email protected] - lol a yebo.co.za account - wow, it has that large corporate sound to it... lol! Especially the yebo.co.za bit.

I sent them mail... subject: Reggies Sucks. I pointed them to this thread.
Wii is too expensive... lol... and XBOX is not?

Toys R Us are nothing but a bunch of Sony lovers.
But Nintendo Sa should have done more to get DS lites into stores.
Bit annoying to have to order DS games from Take2 all the time.

Nintendo SA please grow some balls other wise Mi Digital and Ster Kinekor will eat you alive.

I want a Wii,I want Zelda:TP
