Since I got home, as I switch my PC on, I get as soon as I'm passed the loading 'Microsoft Windows' logo boot screen, my screen stays black and then after about a minute it turns blue.

Safemode incl. with Networking works fine though.

I'm Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

This is the first time EVER I received a blue screen since I got Windows 7 last year.

I REALLY don't want to format now.

Any suggestions?

Ronald

Unplug all the peripherals from the computer (USB Devices, Sound Cables, etc etc), also unplug all expansion cards ( PCI and GPU), boot and see if it still BSOD's on you, my money is on a faulty update/driver. If the machine boots, then plug in everything one by one, and see if it crashes... but first check the log to see if any problems are recorded, you can safely rule out the CPU and HDD, and obvious things like KB and mouse. Graphics drivers, and other I/O devices are usually the cause.

If Windows refuses to boot into safe mode. Do a system restore with the help of a Windows 7 Installation Disc. If that fails, a full reinstall will be your only solution, if that doesn't solve your problem, a full format might, beyond that, hardware replacement will have to be considered.

Also another thing weird thats been happening recently. Whenever I switch my pc on from being completely off, it would start up, but the screen wouldn't go on. Then I would switch in on/off on/off till it eventually comes goes on with a beep. This is definitely not good for the pc.

What can cause this?

Motherboard perhaps? Just a thought though.

disable the automatic restart function (use F8 at the beginning of the boot) and get the error code. If the error code is something like stop 0x0000007B then check/change your IDE/AHCI/RAID configuration in the BIOS.

Google can also be your friend too. Lots of these posts online and solutions.

I have the same problem.. BSOD, but not when switching on, but when shutting down. can anyone help?

Errors

  • Blue Screen after Windows Boot screen start up (Just before login)
  • Formatted the whole PC and reinstalled Windows. Another blue screen appeared during the installation process of both Windows XP and Windows 7.
  • Tried a Linux distro (Ubuntu 10.04 aswell as Backtrack) and screen goes blank as you enter the installation screen.
  • The BIOS has wrong spelling suddenly, eg Verifying changed to Teridying

Anyway, took my whole pc in and apparently it is the Graphics Card and Motherboard.
