Bluetooth connection

Sorry, edit:why not get the cd of the phone and cable and install the modem drivers from the cd,it not very complicated and the cd(wizard will guide you along)

If you install the modem make sure the cd is in and plug in the phone, the wizard will follow,In rare occasions you will have to put in a initialization string, depending on the network(cell network)....the code will have to be put in at the modem properties,
All in all just ask the cell network operator to help you along with his,They are trained to do this.let me know how its going

1-what phone is it
2-which network
3-what windows system
All these play a factor in having the connection successful

My dad uses his phone and a little bluetooth dongle to connect to the internet while he's at home. I installed bluesoleil for him, but it seems it's been limited to 5mB/s. While this is sometimes enough, it isn't always and can be quite frustrating. Can someone recommend a free program/other method.
That post is fairly confusing. The bluetooth link between the Cellphone and the PC is limited to either 0.125mB/s or 0.75mB/s depending on bluetooth version. HSDPA maxes out at a theoretical 1.8mB/s. So I assume that you mean 5kB/s, and that its using edge to connect to the internet. If thats the case then the problem is not the bluetooth link, but rather the reception that the phone is getting or the cellphone tower's encoding scheme.

Try moving around the phone to see if there is better reception somewhere in the room. A cable is a better method of connecting the phone to a PC, but if I understand your post correctly then it won't solve the slow internet speed problem.

What model phone is your pops using to connect via Bluetooth to the PC. I connect via cable or bluetooth and the speed is the same. Also which network is he using.
Your pops must also not compare the speed at home with the speed at work, because u are using a much slower connection @home.

Your problem is your dongle. It's not licensed with bluesoleil. It is running in evaluation mode and therefor has a data limit of 5mb.

Your options:
1 Buy a bluesoleil licensed dongle - $
2 Buy a license key for your dongle - $
3 Use a wired option as already suggested - free

hehehe

those poor people who've went with vista will find that their bluetooth dongle drivers need to be updated - or else they'll use bluesoleil with 5Mb...

I. Feel. Nothing.

Most phones also allow for USB connectivity (and some models even charge the phone whilst plugged into the USB port).

I'm using Viztah Ultimate with my dongle (I hate that word), I didn't install bluesoleil and Winders Viztah works fine with my phone, I can sync to it wirelesly and browse the contents of the phone. Didn't notice any updates..

Then again..Vista went and most likely updated it by itself [it does things like that and thats why I love it Libs, the ONLY operating system I've installed that automatically installed the correct drivers FOR EVERYTHING without me even clicking on anything]

Which dongle is it and which phone?

There are some very crude ones around that are of the olde Bluetooth standard. Why not update it to a Belkin dongle from Incredible Con with the 100m range. (R350)?? If the phone is using the old standard then you may be stuck!

You aren't using Linux are you - only a limited number of dongles are compatible?

Which way are you browsing?

Are you going phone -> bluetooth -> PC -> ADSL -> internet

or are you talking

pc -> bluetooth -> phone -> internet

Sorry guys. That's my bad for creating all of that confusion. It's limited to 5MB of data per session. It's a Nokia N95 and an MSI dongle, which came with a version of BlueSoleil, that worked perfectly. But then it kept nagging to update, which I did, and now this...

Ya I've done it with the cable before - works fine - but bluetooth is quite a lot easier to use...

Do you think if I downgrade to a previous version? I'm using XP btw.
As I thought. Old dongle. Old bluetooth. Updated software. New phone.
Need new dongle.

Yes reinstall your old copy or download v2.3 from their site.
