bluetooth dongle price

@feo - Any feedback on that dongle? Also wanto to get one for a 6230.

Im still gonna find out whether it'll be compatible with nokia pc suite cos i dont want to buy it for nothing. Ill post back when i find out..

Went to Centurion Mall today and while shopping managed to pop into Incredible Connection and PC Game & Computer World..
Incredible Connection : R450!!! lol for a small bluetooth dongle
PCG&CW : They had it for R180 but thats still a bit expensive...
I'll have a look at some of the local computer shops where I live they should have it for around R150 or so...Frontier is a bit too far to drive out just for a small dongle

OK I bought a 100m bluetooth dongle today for R140 from a local computer place.
Now it comes with one of those small CD's and it has software called BlueSoleil. When I installed the software it finds the 6230i fine and pairs with it properly and all that. But when I start using Nokia PC Suite (the latest version) it doesn't pick up the phone at all..I go to "Get Connected" and choose Bluetooth connection but nothing comes up in detected devices. What am I
doing wrong?

Make sure you choose the correct Bluetooth connection.
Mine has WIDCOMM and Windows as the two options. If I choose Windows, it doesn't work ... I have to choose the WIDCOMM one

If you are going to use it with Nokia Smart Suite make sure it uses the Widcom (sp) drivers as that is all that nokia suport.

I tried 3 before I found one that works.
Settled on the X-Micro Bluetooth 2.
I can't remember the price, but I haven't had a moments hassle so it was worth it.

Not that I wanted to say I told you so...............;)

caroper...what exactly didnt work with the the first time you tried it? My problem is that when i start PC Suite and then go to Get Connected and choose Bluetooth connection my phone is not detected at all..it doesnt even seem like its searching for any devices. If I click Search Again absolutely nothing happens.

you have to select which bluetooth drivers to use in 'Manage connections' first

EDIT: But according to Nokia they only support Windows and WIDCOMM drivers :(

You got it. Same symptoms.

LandyMan is correct, have a look at the manufacturers web site and see if they have a Widcomm stack availible for download.
p.s. Widcomm is a software house, rather than hardware, so several manufactures use their software under licance.

I'll post a pic of the dongle now coz theres no name on the package...it's a very popular one though, coz all the shops I tried first had this same dongle.

This is the first time I'm dealing with stacks and widcomm etc etc...but I'll try to get the widcomm stack you mentioned caroper..thanks for all you guys help so far. I'll post back just now..

I went there and theres no widcomm stack for download. And I think the dongle I have is a BlueSoleil IVT dongle...I think.

EDIT. I'm about to cry now...firstly I'm not sure what manufacturer made this dongle and I dunno what drivers/stacks to look for
If I have to buy another dongle(which with my luck I'm sure I'll have to) then can someone please tell me which make and model will work on a 6230i + PC Suite. I just hate when this happens.

X-Micro Bluetooth 2 is what I use with my 6230i

Those links are disscussion forums, you will need to search them, but several posters have managed to get the BlueSoleil to work with patches applied.

No patch needed here..the problem was that the version of bluesoleil that came with the dongle was quite old..the solution was very simple...jus get the latest version of bluesoleil (2.1.2) and PC Suite (6.70.22) and it works fine now. Thanks for all your help caroper and every1 else that posted. Appreciate it :)

Got the x-micro Bluetooth Dongle 2 (100m) in stock. R190 incl. Works perfectly with any phone, bluetooth camera, bluetooth printing and lan. PM me.

thanks but i managed to get a 100m for R140 from a local shop. It was just outdated drivers that were causing problems.

No problem. I know how hair raising it can be to get something to work, and it isn't.

Feo, there is a new PC Suite available, specifically with some patches for BlueSoleil Bluetooth drivers
