.bmp link to open in new application

Hi everyone,

Is there a way that I can tell IE7 to open a .bmp link in another program like Windows Picture and Fax Viewer instead of it opening in IE7 itself?

Right-click on the file, then "Open with ...". Select application you want to use, and tick the box at the bottom to always use that program. Click "Ok". Your done. All .bmp files will now open with that app.

Try Faststone Image viewer. Very nice app for viewing images.

I know how to do that, the problem is that its a IE link, as in Internet Explorer. If I open a .tif link it will ask me to Run or Save or Cancel. If I click on a .bmp it just opens the file in IE.

What is a .bmp file associated with on your PC?

If all else fails, use FF

You can right-click on the file and select "Open With" and then select "Choose Program". Select the desired application from the list and check the "Always use this program" check box.

If you really can't get it to open with the application you want, you can edit the registry.
set HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Paint.Picture\shell\open\command to rundll32.exe C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1

Are you opening the file from an email client?

No, I am trying to open the file from Internet Explorer. The .bmp file is a link in a webbased application. The guy gets similar files in the app from another soruce and they are. tif files and the ask it. I want the .bmp "attachments" to do the same.

To the other guys, I can't use FF as its not supported in the environment.
