The 316i is back with a 1.6 L engine 100kw exactly the same figures found in the 116i. What do you guys think? I used to love the 316i E36(dolphin shape) as a kid and I always thought it would be my first car. Is this a good move by Beemer ? The starting price is R 346 000. Is there a space in the market for it? Who are the rivals ? I know Audi also has an A4 1.8 T with 88kw which should have bee a 1.4 or 1.6 L.I suppose that the competitor.

Well BMW recently had the "320i start" which was a cheaper entry level model.
It's a good thing though, bringing in an affordable model. [Many] people would rather buy an affordable BMW than an overpriced [something else] car.

I think it would be a disappointing purchase, bmw is all about their engines and the drive. This is just for people who want the image of driving a 3-Series.

My vote goes to the No group. The A3 sportback is launched so mybe that's worth considering.

Keep in mind the following :

1. It probably is a turbocharged 1.6l enging
2. It will only use 97 (or higher octane) fuel
3. There is a thread on this forum where the govt states they want to increase the price of 97 to reduce consumption. IIRC. I don't know if they plan to proceed with this robbery or not.

So it may not be a good move at this time...

97? Hu?

Those complaining about the price clearly have no understanding of current car prices. That's a 100kw Beemer 3 Series for Golf GTI money.
