ok i'm a woman so go easy on me. i need someone who could possibly help in this area. i have an automatic BMW and this vehicle seems to cut out every so often for a millisecond then switches back on. sometimes it will cut out altogether and i will have to cruise to the side of the road and turn the key off and restart the car. sometimes this may take 3 or 4 times before the car will start.
does anyone else have this vehicle and have the same problem and know where the problem with the car is? i've had people look at it and they can't seem to find the problem with it. they've taken this and that out and replaced the gadget but it makes no difference.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks kindly.

There is a 325iS (E30 - square one) and a 318iS (E36 - dolphin shape).

On the 318iS it is often the fuel pump relay or the ECU box. Sorry if it is the latter as it is really expensive to replace. My 318iS ECU cost R5600 in 2004 to replace.

Does yours look like this:

I can't click on these links - but I'd guess E46 from the year.

Don't recall a 320is though

Sounds like it's running on Win ME :p

Could be a immobiliser / alarm issue perhaps? I had something similar on a Jetta some time back, which turned out to be the immobiliser which was faulty.

1999 was E46. It sounds like your car is about to explode. Take the bus instead or take your car for a service.

it could be fuel pump or fuel injector related.

oooooooooh i have no idea what you are all talking about now LOL. i will have to let husband dearest read this thread now. all i know about motor vehicles it, put fuel, insert key and go. i was just hoping that you would speak my language i.e. lady talk :D .

let me explain nicely how much i know about them motor vehicles. first time i went to put fuel in my car i asked the petrol attendant very nicely to put air in my tyres. so he comes to my window and says "how many bar?" i say to him, "no thanks i don't want a bar." he says again "how many bar?" so i get cross and say to him "if you come near my wheels with any bars i'm going to hurt you do you hear me!!" needless to say he just took the air pump and proceeded to put air in my tyre. when i explained to husband what happened he laughed and told me what "bar" meant. :D:whistle:

Oi well I'm sure you are not alone in that, I have met some men who have the same level of understanding about cars as you ;)

Basically it could be many things. I have heard many stories where people spend thousands of rands on trying to get a problem sorted, without success. Often the dealers have no clue what is wrong either, so they follow a trouble shooting regime which sees you coughing up a lot of cash whilst they replace parts hoping that the next part they replace makes the problem go away.

If you mean by "cutting out" that the car runs out of electricity, i.e. lights and everything goes dead, then I would put my money on the immobiliser, then again, I'm no expert I'm just following what is logical to me. If you mean that only the engine cuts out, then it could be either a fuel starvation related problem (caused by many things) or an electrical problem like the car's "brain box" going wonky. Truth is, you need an expert to help you out, anything else would simply be a hit and miss business.
