Very poor experience at a BMW dealer in fourways Johannesburg in September 2017.

BMW cedar isle and it’s appointed subcontractor mislead my wife into thinking that they would fix a scratch on the paintwork of the car door.

Acknowledge, There was a scratch on the door. I had known about this for a very long time. But, there was never any dent/cavity/depression in the door panel.

Then , On collection of the vehicle , BMW then claimed that they had fixed a dent and invoiced this.
When I inspected the car, I told them, there was never a dent on the car door. (I know my cars very well and all work on my vehicles are tracked)

I asked BMW : what dent did their sub contractor fix?
They said their sub contractor fixed a minor dent.
I told them , there was never a dent on the door.
Their position was that “as long as they receive an instruction to fix, they will invoice”

The service manager didn’t listen.

BMW cedar isle refused to remediate and also defended their sub contractor actions to the end. The service manager and his colleague went as far as saying that my wife instructed them to do the work and hence, even if there wasn’t a dent, it will be invoiced.

It’s my opinion that the sub contractor mis led my wife to think that the scratch would be fixed. But ,the subcontractor already knew that BMW do not fix scratches onsite. They did fix minor dents on the body work, on-site.
Major work would need to go to an authorized workshop.

At the end of the day, I ultimately lost trust in the BMW cedar isle dealership , it’s service manager and his colleague.

My history : since 2010, two brand new BMW always serviced at cedar isle unless out of town or emergency.

BMW is a fairly good product.
Regrettably, It’s one experience at a dealer like cedar isle that leaves a bitter taste that stays long after the fact that the car is actually a fairly decent product.

I only do my car service with John at Leo Haese Pretoria even though I stay in the South of Johannesburg. Always had the best service without any hassle. He is well known and respected in the bmwfanatics fourm.

Heard the same. Seems to be the best dealership in GP

Cedar Isle and me don't get on, they sold me a dud which is well documented, and then tried to sell me another car to replace mine, I got quoted 50k more than their asking price on autotrader for the exact same vehicle - R300k for a 2013 116i?? and when I queried it I got incoherent misspelled emails from their service adviser and I ultimately gave up. They also refused to provide me invoices for where they sent my car to get "fixed" when I know for a fact that nothing was done to my car, hence the lack of invoicing....

Car Dealerships are in trouble.I watched a documentary about how millennials no longer want to drive cars. The head Honcho @ Ford had this to say.

https://jalopnik.com/fords-new-ceos-comment-about-the-future-of-autonomous-c-1797950411

[Chronicle]: So do you think we’ll shift entirely to autonomous vehicles, or will there still be a place for the car that you buy and drive yourself?

[Hackett]: It’s the latter. We don’t know that autonomous vehicle intelligence in the future will all be delegated to a service that no one owns but everyone uses. It could play a role in vehicles that people own, vehicles that aren’t supposed to crash. You’re buying the capability because of the protection it gives you. It’s also possible it could be applied in these big, disruptive ways that of course we’re not blind to, but my bet is we don’t know. So again, that’s a good position for Ford to be in, because the company can actually advantage itself both ways. Compared to — I don’t want to name anyone, but a tech company that’s not in the vehicle business — they hope it will only go one way, right? Today, 60-70 days into my job, I just want to make sure the possibility isn’t closed.

" Bill Ford of Ford Motor company claims that in ten years’ time the company will sell mobility, not cars".

This is why most car manufacturers are desperately trying to the millenials interested in cars again.

Also, this is probably why Mercedes has this offer site, so that it can offer young ones those cars at insane rates,

And if i remember correctly those adverts target 18-21 year olds and the general public was not happy that these types of cars featured 16-18 year olds dancing around a merc.:D
