Just came back from BMW i Experience event at the V & A. Checked out the R1.8mil i8 supercar; fantastic & futuristic look in the future green way of motoring.Such a head turner.

And then test drive the i3; wow what an experience driving a full electric car; zero noise & regenerative breaking takes some getting used but what a smart & efficient city car.

Thoroughly enjoyed everything

I picked up my car from SMG at Canal last week after some small cosmetic repairs; and had a look at the BMW i8 and i3 that were on the floor. The i8 is a thing of beauty, hey. But while looking at the i3 with my bud that had given me a lift there, an interesting point was raised - what will the resale value of the i3 be like in 4 or 5 years time?

Consider this - the technology with respect to electronic cars is advancing in leaps and bounds every year lately. So come 4 years from now, it is very probable that the i3 will be a complete dinosaur in terms of range and charging time etc compared to what is then available. So we reckoned it would likely be a total disaster in terms of resale by then. Just conjecture though. Would not take the risk however...
 
Well problem with electric cars has always been the batteries,

Tech hasnt gotten there yet, also infustructure to maintain it dosent exist ....yet....

Electric is nothing new, you can get electric from 1908 just how to get the electrons going, thats the main issue now.....

I agree and disagree. Tech (batteries) has got to a level now where many manufacturers are selling electric cars as part of their production line - and many people are buying them. The point is, that I think the tech will improve massively over the next few years - which will in essence destroy the resale value of the current gen electric cars.
 
Your forgeting one thing,
As the majority of cars are still gas powered, think how many jobs will go bust if we use electric,

Petrol attendants, garages, spares shops,the list goes on and on.
Also the goverment will have to find a way to tax them, cant use a fuel levy and electricity is a bit of a hit and miss affair,

Thats why the EV1 sold in the us was crushed becuse too many unknowns that yet to be worked out.....
 
I saw an i8 on the weekend in EL, it almost got taken out by a taxi driving straight through a stop street!
The driver got quite annoyed and put his foot down, that thing is proper quick when you give it horns.
 
Did you get those for attending the iExperience or are they buttering you up because they know you're a big shot on mybb motoring?

Lol I am not a "big shot"...just a normal bloke. Right place; right time.

Only reason I bumped up this thread was for the i8 vid of the fat bloke...couldn't find any relevant thread
