Ok. I have purchased three Opel vehicles in the past. Experienced pretty decent service when I had to take these cars in for a service, or had an ad hoc issue.

But recently had a warning or two about the battery on the display of my BMW; and after the last blurb my aircon seemed to take a nose dive. So booked it in at SMG at Canal Walk.

Colour me impressed. First time there for after sales service. After being booked in, I get a butler-type dude (seriously) taking down my details as to where I need to get a lift to work, and then politely ushering me to the coffee counter (lady making coffee from one of those expensive contraptions)...muffins and apples available to munch as well.

I was kept informed the whole day - battery failed the test and was replaced with a new one. Aircon seemed solid, and even though they thought the reported poor performance was due to the faulty battery; they replaced all the gas. After being picked up from work, I found the aircon to be working as desired.

Reason for this thread/post? Very happy with this experience; also quite chuffed with a battery being replaced. Take that you Gti owners! :)

That's pretty standard BMW service in my experience. Really miss the BMW service since I bought a VW. Seems like every time I take the VW CC in for a service they break something else on the car which is why 6 months after changing from BMW to VW I'm now in the market for a BMW again.

Lol @ GTI owners.

I bought mine from them and got the same treatment. Will happily buy another car from them.

The guy giving me a lift multiple times was also a pleasant fellow. Is he the butler you refer to?

Interesting. I've never used a VW dealer but I did use Audi in Culemborg a few times and had much the same service as SMG.

Cake with my coffee etc.

I must just add that on the motorcycling side having spent almost a whole day at Donford Cape Town recently BMW are in a different league.

It's much the same standard as their car dealerships, maybe even a bit more special and it's not really that they are that amazing but that everyone else is just so far behind.

Next bike will more than likely be a BMW for this reason unless Ducati pulls a rabbit out of a hat.

****

Ducati Johannesburg is easily on par with BMW, but down here in Cape Town they are non-existent.
