You comparing the wrong variables.

It should be Scottburgh vs Krugersdorp,

Not BMW vs Ferrari

But surely motorists should be governed by the same rules in the same country? Or does each province/town make up it's own rules?

I think they take the driver's money situation into account. R25k is probably a good night at Teasers for the Ferrari driver.

Each province set their own fines, not their own rules. In general fines are higher in Gauteng

Yip. You get asked what you do and what you earn.

/speaks from experience
True. I got off with R1,500 for doing 141 in an 80 zone (dual carriage highway) in my student days.

I got pulled over at cato ridge for doing 131 in a 120 zone overtaking a car, this was dec holiday season and hauled of to the roadside court. After listening to the judge asking people what they do and how much they earn I decided to lie and walked away R1.5k poorer, if I had been honest it would have been a lot worse.

Listening to the others I also knew not to spin some sop story and waste the courts time, I just said "Guilty your honor, no excuses" and then proceeded to add some comments wrt the previous peoples stories which made the judge snicker and the one cop had to leave the room so he could go laugh outside. In retrospect this could have ended badly for me :D

Hehe I did the same, "guilty your honour" so that I don't waste anybody's time. Then I got a lecture about how this is not America, and in SA it's "my worship" for magistrates and "my lord" for judges :D

I've gotten out of a R600 fine just by being pleasant to the guys.
