Hey Guys,

Wondering if you can help me out. Looking to get my brother a BMX bike, preferably mongoose, tried to other brands from a store up the road, but both of them had issues.

Do you know of a place where I can purchase one? I'm in Pretoria.

Thanks

BMX why? How old is he? Why not a decent bike?

He is obsessed with BMX'ing, 16 years old :) Has a decent bike already, but its not suited for the local skate park where you can BMX aswell. The normal bike is just too heavy to take on the ramps etc.

There's a lot better BMX brands than mongoose, look at the classifieds on thehub.co.za

Thanks for that! I'm a noob at BMX bikes, but Christmas is around he corner and Santa has to start saving :) Will definitely check out the classifieds. What brands would you recommend?

I'm a bit out of touch with Bmx stuff as I've moved on to bikes with bigger wheels!!
But do a quick google about "best bmx frames" etc and ask on thehub - the guys there love helping out with these kind of requests. And take a look on the classifieds for a few weeks , a beaut will crop up!!!

Just be warned, the classifieds will be half or less than new retail but good bikes incl bmx are k4k expensive, BMX's are nice though in that they have less complicated parts and bits than MTB and they are really robust. But buy your brother a bomb bike, seems like hes keen beans, a good bike will get him well on his way - he'll be too stoked :)

Unlike MTB, BMX and Mongoose are an extremely good pairing. Mongoose has been around since the beginning, and still sponsor the top pro's. Not many brands are above them.

Mongoose, Haro, Sunday, Kink, Hoffman, any one of those and you're sorted. But of course, just as everything, you get what you pay for. Your R2000 mongoose is nowhere near as light as your R7500 one.

A mongoose would be a decent starter BMX but it won't last long, especially on the ramps.

Bru, go and ask on thehub, the okes there are legend they love helping people like you who is going out of his way to get their little bro onto some wheels. They'll get you on the right path, wouldn't be surprised if some guy reading it out of the goodness of his heart sorts you a really sweet deal, many okes who may have moved on to mtb have bmx lurking in their garages...
