Bnet pings on an unshaped account?

Hi

I've got an adsl 384 with a webafrica prepaid local shaped account.. my lowest ping was 59 on warcraft3 but on average its about 70

Would I get a much better ping If I used an unshaped account?if so, how low a ping?

You're talking 70 ping to local servers, right?

Coz I get about 200ms to US East with 384 unshaped.
 
well imho unshapped is much better for online gaming,I used to be a big WOW fanboy,went from dial(56k) to ISDN then to shapped ADSL with telscum(telkom) WOW was simply unplayable and thus i was forced to get a unshapped account,All my games online are good to play.

i dont think there will be that much of change in your pings and latency,you have to remember that we still developing ADSL/Broadband in our 4th ooops mean 1st world country:p

only change should be the end/begining of month mass downloads.with unshapped you as an individual get priority so no slow month ends:sick: :eek:
 
Question

Hi,

I'm new to online gaming...have been playing GRAW on international servers over the weekend and generally get a +/- 300 ping (WebAfrica, unshaped account). From my perspective it works great...no jerkiness or anything

But I got kicked out of one server for too high a ping at 317. Why do they kick us? From my perspective the game was smooth :(

agg it happens to all of us,been many occasions where everything was fine then WHAMM!! server disco!!

we are far far far away from the rest of the world so its going to happen once in a while,if it keeps happening then look for another server,generally if your a fanboy youll find a server/home that your connection will be attuned:sick: :eek: :D
 
Hi

Change to SAOL as your service provider, with them I had a shaped acount playing WoW and I got the same latency as a friend of mine who had an unshaped. My only irritation was that I got better latency on the my U.S account then on my EU account.
 
What about local servers??? I'm wondering weather or not to chance from my webafrica prepaid local only account to a unshaped account?
 
Nah

For local servers a ping of 59 is good, it all depends how close you are to the exchange, you can get anywhere from 35 to about 70 latency with dsl. so at 59 your still good, especially for Warcraft3 which runs fine with latency up to 500ms.
 
59 is at like 12pm!!!! during the day wen my mom is checking email, bro is surfing the net and dad is updating windows security.... pings get abit high!

Does this mean, when americans or brits play on a SA server, they too have these high pings? Incidently, when I play GRAW on the SA server I get a ping <50...only problem is... I'm the only one playing:eek:

well, that's because there's lots of traffic on your line, if no one else was doing anything on the line you'd probably get the same pings you do at midnight
