Hey everybody

this year i am going to boarding school and my school has a unshaped uncapped 4mbps line, the problem is that all the gaming ports (counterstrike etc) and p2p ports are blocked.

Does anybody have a solution to getting to play css or a program that will allow me to re-route all programs to port 80?

Please help how can i survive with no cs during the week!

whatever you do could get you thrown out of boarding school.

which in itself isnt so bad.

it is coming home to face the music that really really sucks...

Damn, back in my day boarders were lucky if they had a pay-phone :D

Yip and we worked out how to jippo that for free, so i am sure a little firewall should not be too difficult.

I guess your quest would begin with either a proxy running on port 80 ( or any other port ), or a vpn if that is not blocked. If they are doing packet inspection you are going to have to set up a ssl tunnel. You really need a bit more info on the firewall.

Run your own DC++ server on the LAN, share content like that, somewhere in your hostel there is a very smart kid which can set it up on a cheap Linux box.

Approach the school, ask them to allow 1 user to download the latest series, up to 30G, or some reasonable limit. Run the downloads at times which will not affect other users, like when the students or admin staff do not need it to be lightning fast.

Don't get expelled.

Obviously the school thinks playing games on their network is not a good idea. Rather than sneeky around, maybe you should be upfront and ask to be allowed to do it on weekends. The admin guy is going to get upset if you bypass his blocking measure and complain to the head. Why risk it?

Study, matriculate, study some more, graduate, find a good paying job, get your own 4mbps connection and leave all ports open - problem solved ;)

Aren't there enough folks in the school who can play CSS local?
