I wanted to start a thread like this. Please you fancy boat owners please provide pointers for those of us who dont have boats but want to get one but know nothing about boats.

I want to get one CHEAP! for fishing just me and a buddy in the ocean if we can... otherwise river will have to do if its cheaper. But when i say cheap i mean cheap my only criteria is that the thing must float at this stage.

Hey man if you say cheap.. whats your budget more or less? Going to the deep with an "cheap boat" isnt always an good idea. The requirements for going more than 1 NM out to sea is 2 motors. Buying an boat and especially your first boat one must always have a bit more patience and be very very sure that this is what you want out of an boat. When buying your first boat your first point of interest should usually be the motors. Are they in good condition ,how many hours have they runned, what year are they ect. and the hull especially the transom area.

Where would you be using the boat .. cape waters or kzn?

Does my rubberduck with electric motor count? :D I hunt bass :D

Im waiting for my wife to start working so I can buy a Seadoo jet bike to play in the waves and do drop shot off :D

I would think so :P

Those Jetski's are ideal for the guys who live in jhb and dont want all the stress of towing and 2ton boat :) .

We had a boat and a jet ski when I was younger and am quite keen to purchase myself a boat in the near"ish" future, as far as a skippers license to drive the boat (without being fined) how would one go about that? this would be for using the boat on a dam.

Semi Ridged rubberduck? Prob cheapest (R50k<) but ya much nicer things out there.
Can one get financing like with vehicles?(I'm sure you can but where? is it just as simple?) What about insurance +-
Cape Waters
Budget... R100k max? Bow rider?

Where can it be kept at a marina or dock in Garden Route near George?

Its so lame, haha, but it gets me to the bass.

Im super keen for it, being planning for years. Unlike the Jozi okes Ill actually use it :D Live right next to the beach. Ive also just recently got into dropshot (its like bass fishing, but not limited in time of year and fish you can eat). I recon the two will go hand in hand.

Well there are a number of places where you can get your skippers . I did mine with and practical surf launching course. Dam license is rated "R" thats the code for restricted waters. Its basically just one exam.

Semi rigged are good they are light and can go as far as an other boat in my opinion.
Financing im not really 100% sure . From what ive heard you can get financing if the boat is no more than 3 years old incl the motors.
Cape waters are well a bit more hectic that kzn waters :) .... I have no real experience there except for a few charter fishing.

All this talk of the blue is making me frustrated :D .... Sound like a good plan !

With an R100k you can get something decent without any regrets but dont rush it. If you see something you like get a 2nd and 3rd opinion. Talk to a few dealers in those areas they should know who you can contact for storage.
