A body was found in the boot of a burnt car on Monday after fire-fighters extinguished the fire along Church Street in Florida Park, Johannesburg emergency services said.

"Emergency services got a call that a vehicle was on fire and after they extinguished the fire they found that inside the boot of the vehicle there was a body," spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said.

"The body was not really burnt badly and could be recognised. The case has been handed over to the police for investigation. There was no one else around the vehicle when we arrived on the scene."

He said the cause of the fire would also be investigated.

Cause of the fire? Matches probably. Or maybe a lighter.

COPS PROBE MURDER IN FLORIDA PARK

Police are investigating a case of murder after the body of a man with his hands bound was found in the boot of a burnt car in Florida Park on Monday, Johannesburg police said.

"Police went to the scene and on their arrival the car was burning. After the fire stopped, they found an adult male in the boot with his hands tied at the back," spokesman Major Mack Mngomezulu said.

"Police are investigating murder; currently we don't know the motive for the killing. The cause of death will also be investigated. The body was burnt beyond recognition."

He said at around 4am police received a complaint that a car was on fire in Church Street in the Roodepoort suburb.

Police found that the car belonged to a chemical company in Randburg but were not sure if it had been stolen.

"It is unclear if the man is employed at the company. His identity will be determined through investigations," said Mngomezulu.

Johannesburg emergency services said earlier that the body was discovered after the fire was extinguished.

At the time spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said the body was not "really burnt badly" and could be recognised.

"There was no one else around the vehicle when we arrived on the scene," he said.

The cause of the fire was unknown and would also be investigated.

I hope there is some evidence, camera footage etc that can be used to track down the criminals involved.

My dad and uncle were murdered in a very similar way. My dad, no evidence, no one caught, just gone. My uncle one guy was caught.

thanks guys.
dunno, there was initially some speculation but nothing concrete.
but it was many years ago.

My dad was shot in the head and then burnt beyond recognition. I think they used dental records to identify him.
My uncle was hit in the back of the head and tied up and left in the boot while they drove around for about 3 days. He succumbed to his injuries.
