For anyone that followed my previous thread tracking my weight loss progress with a monthly body stat.

Bad news with my most recent one, it said although I lost 2kg - I had lost muscle and in fact gained some fat.

I found this confusing as I have been pretty strict with my eating habits, and photographically I look a bit bigger (muscle).

The day I did the reading I slugged down 2 small cups of coffee early morning and 1 small cup lunch time (was stressed)

informed body stat lady who said I should redo test for half price because caffiene can throw reading off.

Is this true and to what extent.

Most body stats, wait no, all body stat machines have a serious margin of error.

You can only, I repeat, ONLY, use it to measure trends. To take a once off reading from a simple body stat machine will not give you accurate results.

If you take a weekly, bi weekly or daily reading you can measure trends over time.
