Boeber - Almost time

Lol every time some mentions Boeber there is some Bieber gag/joke about it.

"Boeber is a sugary, warm, milk drink well suited for a sweet tooth and mellow enough for a sensitive stomach during fast."

So I bought the ingredients as per the two recipes;

News24:
  • 100g butter
  • 75ml sago
  • 250ml extra-fine vermicelli
  • cinnamon sticks
  • 50g sultanas
  • 2l milk
  • 100ml condensed milk
  • 15ml rose water or 10ml vanilla essence
  • 150ml white sugar
  • 50g blanched almonds

Bo-Kaap Recipe:

  • 1-2 Table spoons Butter
  • 250g Vermicelli (crushed into fine pieces)
  • 5-7 Cardamon Seeds
  • 3 Large Sticks of Cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 litres milk or 1 cup Milk and 1/2 cup coconut milk – add more milk if you prefer a runny consistency
  • 1 Table spoon Desiccated Coconut (optional)
  • 1/4 Cup Sago
  • 2 tsp Rose Water
  • 1/2 – 3/4 Cup Sugar
  • 50g Slivered Almonds (optional)
  • 250ml Warm Water

Then I bought the Spice Mecca pack for R12.99 in case I messed the above up:
And it has just 5 ingredients: vermicelli, sago, sugar, cardamon and cinnaman.

Which begs the question, where does the condensed milk and sultannas come from?

That news24 one seems like the ingredients for vermicelli pudding.

Like any self respecting aunty will give news 24 the full recipe

So I attempted it. Followed the Bo-Kaap recipe.

So after basically following it too the T, and it was already very thick and I debated whether to add the sago. I decided to add since I did not know better. Had to call my wife. She took over, ask me how much butter did I use, as she could taste it (???). Whether it was salted or unsalted butter as I should have used the unsalted. Then she said I used to much Vemicelli and some of it was'nt cook through and I should not have used Almonds but Dates and so on, eventually she added (slowly) another 1.5 litres to get it too drinking consistency and more sugar, cause I basically dont use sugar.

Anyway it taste very nice except for the Almonds slivers, neither my daughter nor I liked it (in the Boeber).

Edit: My wife upset, as the instruction required me to break the vermicelli into small pieces which I did in the bag, which broke spreading small pieces of Vermicelli all over the kitchen.

Not sure, these are only things I enjoy when my colleagues bring some with to work at Diwali. I think I have had some from Laudium and some were brought in from India.
In Fordsburg and Laudium specialist shops.

A for effort, b for boeber boo-boo
After reading those recipe no wonder you stuffed it up. The recipe are both confusing.
I have no idea what it’s supposed to taste like but I would assume it needs to be boiled quite a bit before serving.
