If I boiled some eggs, let them cool down and then put them in the fridge (still in the shell), how long would they keep for and still be good to eat?

Thanks. It's a bit of an argument we are having at work, some people say 4 days to a week, one guy says months :wtf:

One says don't put them in the fridge either, keep at room temp. Any views on this?

Uncooked eggs you can keep at room temp. Once boiled they must be refrigerated if you plan on keeping them for anything longer than a day.

Actually they *must* be kept at room temperature. ZA vaguely follows EU procedures on eggs, meaning they are not washed before you receive them (unlike USA side). Meaning they are still covered by a thin (natural) coating that keeps out bacterial nonsense. If you throw them in the fridge you'll get condensation on them which (apparently) impairs that coating.

Fascinating. How do you guys know this?
Presumably trial & error involving some emergency running to toilets. :D As for the above...read it somewhere on the interwebs a while back.

What are you up to now? Long Life Scotch Eggs?

Lol. Unfortunately not. I've just moved into an apartment from a hotel, and am too lazy to makes breakfast in the morning.

Plan A is to boil up a few days worth of eggs in the evening, and chomp in the morning with some tomatoes or whatever and hence gaining at least 5 minutes more in bed and less washing up :)

Or save even more time and buy a pack of pre-boiled eggs.

Get one of those egg cooker things...they're like 200 bucks you chuck the eggs in and 5 mins later it whistles and its done.

Stupid model I had didn't switch off automatically though...that sucked.

Right will see if I can spot them...weird that i never noticed them if they're as common as you say

No such fanciness in this primitive backwater of Oman where I find myself. There's one supermarket in the whole province and it's a 2 hour round trip. Actually, I'm lucky I can get fresh eggs from the shop nearby :)

FYi -

Fresh egg's (unboiled) are typically coated in mineral oil, so they'll last 4-5 weeks.
Thats why they last longer than boiled eggs - as the coating is worn off.

I have a spare kettle for boiled eggs.

Put cold water in kettle, add eggs. Flip switch. When kettle boils and turns off, set timer for 5 minutes. Perfect medium boiled eggs
