Bold 9700 Or Torch

So Guys, my trusty N97 decided to give in this morning.
looks like there is a crack in the screen once it is on but no physical damage on the phone.
Pulled it out my pocket and it was like that.

Nevertheless I now need to replace it.

Ive read the thread on the Torch and it seems to have some issues but its isolated.

IN your opinion, what would be the one to go for?
I need it today as I have no phone :(
 
Playing with a 9700 now, its not bad. Not blown away by it.
I think I will miss the touch screen aspect of things if I go for a 9700.

Im just worried about the quality of the Torch.

the quality aspect is a problem, but i dont think i could use a normal keyboard now.
I hardly ever slide open my phone..

oddly, the weird looseness on the slider has gone away after i dropped the phone..
 
Torch, magic phone - I must admit, I treat it with kids gloves, espescially since it is not insured yet, Ha! The 9700 is nice, but down on specs, also I find that I use a combination of all three input methods, touch, trackpad and keyboard - perfect!
 
Have to agree. The Torch is the best device made to date!

If you have the cash, rather import one from the US.

The quality of the US devices, especially the Torch, is by far better than those in SA. Believe me, I imported 7 already and none if them had any problems.
 
I think you made the right decision. Hope you will enjoy it.

For the first time I am in a position to run my online business from my phone.
 
I know I'm too late - but it is tough :/

I got a 9700 in May and a Torch last month - and wasn't blown away by the Torch at first. Quality issues made it worse - but I still do prefer it over the 9700. Just not as much as I'd hoped ;)
 
Just a small issue I have.
If I am on a call I get feedback in the sense that it sound like what plays through the speakers of a car if your phone is close to the actual radio.
Almost like that buzzing on and off sound.

Any of you guys have this?

Nope, i do get low in call volume if i dont place the phone exactly over my ear, but definitely no buzzing..

Like I said, I would highly recommend cash buyers to buy their Torches from the US. They come unlocked and the handset quality is superb.

South Africa's stock is highly questionable and around 95% of buyers have to return their handsets within 24 hours.

I have a huge problem with the Torch stock sold in SA and believe that this may be rejected stock that was shipped here.
 
I wish someone from BlackBerry/RIM South Africa could sort out this @House character. He is just punting his grey import business.

Unfortunately I do not have an import business and I am not interested in one. As long as the US devices are working better than those here I have no problems using grey products.
 
Ok well I went back to chatz and they said ineed to send it away. Is there anything I can do. You spend 7k on a phone and it doesn't work. The optical scroller is also getting stuck now. This is honestly horrible.
 
Wow that is BS! Never had an OBF with my Torch but Autopage told me that any OBF within 7 days would be an instant new sealed Torch. Tell Chatz they suck!
