It's a full reboot like a PC (although I don't know why it takes longer than most PC's). That's why when you hold down the red button it only goes into standby mode and not full shut down. All blackberry's are like that it's a sign of the aging OS that needs an overhaul.

That being said this is the best phone I have ever used my Sony X2 is in cupboard this phone has changed my life
