Bolt takes on Uber in SA

Bolt is looking to grow its presence in South Africa, increase its number of trips per user, and launch Bolt Food this year.

This is according to Bolt country manager Gareth Taylor, who was speaking to CNBC Africa about the company’s plans in 2020.

Will definitely give Bolt Food a try, but so far since switching to Uber Eats I'm as happy as a pig in Palestine, using Mr.D food was not a pleasant experience most of the time

If they make a competitor for uber Eats, all they have to do is an an 'This order was not delivered' button do you dont have to go to social media to get refunds on what they steal.

Bolt supply in Mahikeng is problem we don't have enough driver's evidence

I've spoken to several Uber drivers who hate the cash payment option. They say it makes things very unsafe for them, as well as encountering a lot of people who simply refuse to pay at the end of their journey. I don't understand why they introduced this option in South Africa. Anyone who has the means to take an Uber surely has a bank account with a debit card.

I've had the opposite problem. Bolt driver miffed because it WASN'T a cash job - he couldn't afford to buy petrol!

Ended up taking me into Cape Town rather than where I wanted to go - because he needed to get another job. In short, pretty much a pleasant bit of kid-napping. Was going to be drop me by the side of the road in district six, until I agreed to pay him R100 in cash now, if he drops me off where I want to go.

In short - will NOT be using Bolt again. Never anything but dodgy cars and dodgy drivers.

Thats bull.... do they not know if its cash or electronic payment before hand???????

He knew as soon as he picked me up -- let out a big "HUFF... not another card job... aish"
Maybe he is told before accepting, but who knows.

I agree with others above. Cash jobs should be illegal - tax dodging and dangerous for driver and passenger.

Good, I can't get into my Uber account - and dealing with their pathetic support is beyond frustrating, my issue had been escalated so many times it must be on another planet by now.

Can confirm. Happened twice. So what they do is accept the request, then when you get in the car, they cancel and ask for cash. Both times I told them to piss off and got out the car. Reported it both times as well.

Been bitten once, not again! Bolt no more
