And Berry is by no means the only one challenging the Bern Mathematical models. I came across another rather humorous commentary of the Bern model : https://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/05/06/the-bern-model-puzzle/
with these quotes which are pretty spot on in my opinion:
It is all a bit of a joke really - a model with "fiddle factors" which can be "tuned" to generate whatever outcome you want. And they wonder why they have such a spread of rather incomprehensible scenarios (to laymen including Politicians), but not to critical scientist analysts more than capable of seeing through the mathematical gymnastics and smoke and mirror BS, and suspicious outcomes.
It always comes back to the suspicion that the UNFCCC and the IPCC defined a definition of AGW (now ACC) and are hell-bent on manipulating the data to get this pre-determined answer come hell or HiCO2.
There is nothing wrong with the IPCC carbon-cycle model, though it does contain uncertainties in the flux of carbon in various parts of the ocean and biosphere, each of which have different residence times. These are the subject of ongoing scientific research, and iIt would be very strange if new research did not come up with revised estimates the relative flux of carbon in the ocean and biosphere.
The partition percentages are not arbitrary numbers, but best estimates at the time of the report, of the various carbon fluxes. The wattsupwiththat.com article twists those uncertainties into some sort of conspiracy, and makes it sound as if they can be changed to meet some preconceived target.
The total amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is very well mixed, and can be measured quite precisely. Charts of these numbers have been available for 50 years, and are not in any doubt.
