Boosting in car cellphone reception

Does anyone know how to boost the reception in my vehicle. Before bluetooth we all had car kits that had an external antenna attached to the mounting/charging bracket.

I found quite a few solutions on the net, but all for the US market. I'm using an iPhone 3GS and need a wireless reception booster for my car.

Any help?
