I have a laptop which I formatted. I used a boot disk but it keeps on saying: "Non-system disk or disk error". What could be the problem? It also gives me the problem that it won't go into the bio's? I just don't know what to do anymore, can someone please help? :(

You have formatted your computer. You have lost all your data. Reinstall windows?

The boot disk might be faulty, or you must select to boot from it in your BIOS.

Yeah try all the function (F1,F2,F3 etc...) key to get into the BIOS and see what your primary boot drive is. Change it to the CD-ROM and just plonk in a Windows XP disc.

If you've formatted your HDD then there is no Master Boot Record (MBR) left on you HDD. This is why you get the error you are getting. The laptop is simply not setup to read from you CDROM/DVDROM on boot up.

You will need to get into your bios and change the boot order to read the optic drive before the HDD. This requires you to push the enter setup key (usually F2, F8 F10 or Del) before it tries to read the MBR.

If you struggle to get into the bios then you'll need to get someone to help you I'm afraid (either an IT guy or a shop).

thats correct if you cannot get into the bios to change the boot device to put a cd in then you are stuffed. There is another way..i think you can flash your bios again if it was messed up.just read you materials that came with it,I am sure you will find it easy to get into the bios.

Press DEL to get in the BIOS. If it doesn't work you need to have your laptop checked out. Check for prompts on the screen when switching it on. It might want you to press another key.

I know my computer wants me to press F2 first and then DEL.
