I have a very specific question which might get answered on this forum. Is it humanly possible to down a bottle (750ml) of brandy in one go? Some friends shared a video of somebody doing it and I suggested it might be another substance (like tea), since you cannot see the actual breaking of the bottle's seal (even though it can be heard in the video). I have been demoted to black sheep of the Whatsapp group after that.

Has anybody seen somebody actually doing this and not die? We can discuss the macho aspect of this afterwards, I just want to know if this can be done or not.
 
Lethal dose for alcohol is 5-8g/kg (ie 300g can kill a 60kg person). 40% of a 750ml is 300ml so it would be close to 300g alcohol in a bottle I think. An average guy weighs more than 60kg though, so it could be possible, however you'd still have some nasty alcohol poisoning

Of course there are some people who will fall outside of that, but those are rare exceptions
 
Yes I did that in my twenties with a liter WVO. Needless to say I ended up in hospital with alcohol poisoning and got very very sick - almost to I point where I got a heart attack. Slipped in and out of a coma and puked my lungs out. If it wasn't for the quick reaction of some friends...
I never ever want to experience that again

To add, it's probably the second most dumbest thing I've ever done. Please don't even consider the idea

Alcohol is only +-80% the density of water so only +-240g of booze in a brandy bottle, using the lower limit of lethal dose it would kill anyone who weighs less than about 48kg and that's assuming it all stays in... So it's definitely possible.

Although a really stupid idea
 
OK, let's move to phase 2. A number of you guys have claimed/admitted to have done it yourselves. What is the motivation to attempt this?

yes its possible.
there was a man who lived across the road from my parents.
after a case of beer (shared between 6 of us) he would do this with Klippies from time to time.

he had logic in doing it. why waste a 2litre coke? I am just going to polish the bottle myself anyway.
he also did not like klippies. he was a red heart man.
a normal Friday night at his place was 3 cases of castle, 3 2 litres of coke and 3 bottles. normally red heart, I prefered capitain. sometimes it was Richelau. but he alwyas just downed the klippies. normally he would stay around for like 2 hours drinking coke then he would go to bed around 8.
and he would be fine the next day. he took 2 grandpa's before bed to pre-emptively strike at the hangover.

he was just over 200cm tall and weighed 230kg. big man. very muscular.

literally fell over out of nowhere one day. about 4 years ago. apparently not related to the drinking. according to the doc. but I always had my doubts.

I downed a bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Gold when I was 18, got absolutely smashed really quickly, but didn't get sick, partied for a few hours, drinking just Coke. I was at some student party and they had Blueworld or Thunda or something taking photos at this party back then, I was in 95% of the photos of that album. I would probably have to be rushed to the E.R. if I had to do that now.
