How do you tell your boss/manager that you are getting bored of the work you are given. This has been coming for a while and now the last straw is I just saw that the new guy got some really cool work (which I believe I'm better at) and now so demotivated. Is email too informal? Should I approach my manager? Bit difficult to approach though since its an open plan office so everyone hears everything. Advice please

I would do this in person, if its an open office, maybe ask boss if you can talk privately somewhere or drop him a mail asking him.
Face to face will get your point across better,

The phrase you are looking for is "The learning curve has flattened out/plateau'd for me". Don't email. Just tell him you need to speak to you. If he's isn't entirely thick then he'll get that this means a 1-1 talk.

Politician in the making hey :) but I get your point. Will try catch the guy and arrange soemthing during lunch when most people go out. Thanks all

Agreed - i had the same chat...sent a mail first, and got fobbed off...phoned her and now the meeting is setup, with a preliminary way forward already identified....

if you dont ask, you dont get.

Keep a paper trail. My managers didn't take it well when I told them that our work has officially become more boring than Auditing.

At least you have work... I'm bored cause I have nothing to do...

Tread carefully, most bosses DON'T like hearing the truth.

Request a discussion in private or in a coffee shop and remember to be diplomatic. Don't say you are bored, just point out you would prefer more challenging assigments etc.

Jip. I had to learn that the hard way. :(
But they might interpreted challenging assignments as that you want more work... and things can turn out much worse.
It probably depends on the relationship he has with the manager.

Well besides not being challanged the fact that the newbie gets this work is frustrating. My manager had to sit with him for 3 hours to help him. I was there for 5 minutes and knew what needed to be done. Argh.

I'm also reaching a point of no return with this job... I'm not challenged in anything and there's literally nowhere for me to go internally. I'm at the stage of strongly considering looking for other work.

But I like working here. Nice atmosphere and people. Just need the actual work to match. Its just too dam easy
