Bosch cordless drill batteries?

Both battery packs on my Bosch cordless drill have given up. You can't get new locally and I can get made up repacks from a place in Durban at a decent price. But, being that I am I can also do it myself if I can find the individual NiCad batteries that go into these packs. Where can I get these in the Joburg/Randburg area? It's probably not worth it, but it would be satisfying. There's too many dead cells to cannibalise the two to make up a good one.

Can't you get that size and voltage cells at a china shop. Some do have a little circuit to protect charging.

As above, likely a bit of a waste as the brushes on the motor are probably near their end too.
Time for a new machine....happy toy shopping.

Bosch has been having amazing specials on their li-ion cordless drills, R1500 for a drill with 2 batteries. Even if you DIY your battery repackaging just the cells alone will be around R800 for 2 batteries. Sell the old kit as is and get a new Bosch setup

A couple of reasons: The Bosch equivalent replacement is more than R3000 and then in three years you've got the same battery problem. Li-ion's got advantages but still about a 1000 cycle life span. I don't buy into that game of replacing because of a simple matter of bushes and battery. You're just adding to the world's waste problem. As it is, I've got a Black & Decker corded drill that's still going strong after 30 years.
So, the question stands, where can I get the batteries?

Put some wires on it and use a 12v alarm battery, just remember polarity when connecting

I do not know if they can help, but my first point of call would be Capital Batteries in Lynnwood, Pretoria.
cblbatteries.co.za
They have helped me out with various batteries on a number of occasions.

Why not ask the battery repacking place to sell you the loose batteries? Just Batteries here in Benoni will repack or sell you individual batteries

Fair enough!
But this is the price of new technology. When you bought your rechargeable hand drill you thought it was going to last you as long as the salesman said or you presumed. I also have corded power tools that my father gave me and they are still working.
Rechargeable tools are cutting edge technology and do have a place in the market but they are never going to last as long as mature mains powered tools will.
An alternative is to recycle your rechargeable drill responsibly so it won't land up on the landfill site.

I've dug around a bit more and batteryexperts.co.za is definitely the best price even with repacking, R800 for the two. There are places you can get the batteries (it's a 1.2v Sub C NiCd) like Akita and RS Components, but they're way expensive. On eBay the batteries (x24) are about R600. Now to decide if I'm in a hurry or not. I've got a visitor coming from France in January and I can get the complete battery packs on Amazon for R400 each.
Here's a nice little article from a local guy on repacking: http://www.wwa.org.za/RechargeableBatteries.pdf.

those look like Ni-Mh so that's 10 x 1,2v = 12volt
i gutted my old batteries and made a 2 metre connection to a big 28aH battery that runs all day
So its kinda cordless, weighs very little as there are no internal batteries
better than throwing a drill away
Otherwise try justbatteries.co.za there in Jhb, i have used them a few times, really good stuff

What plan if you get the new batteries and then shortly the brushes on the motor wear out?....new motor
I had Bosch and that is next in line with these machines.

That is the risk you run when repairing old equipment.
But if you understand this and you want to persevere then that's great. It hopefully will provide you with a thorough understanding of the state of the art of that tool and you will then be empowered with knowledge of its shortfalls and this will allow you to make better choices going forward.
Being an electronics tech my fear is that the subsequent improvements in the electronics of the tool are so great as to rob you of your joy when you have completed the refurbishment.
