Hi. I need some advise on this as I know nothing about it.
I currently have work obligations in Botswana and am required to stay for about 1 month every 3 months. I had my trusty Merc with me for the first time I was up there and had not read the border entry info properly, to say the least I got a big fine for my car overstaying its welcome. I generally do about 500km in the month or so I am there and need a car with a botswana reg. I don't like anything I have seen used and want to import a car from Japan.
I am not sure about what I need to do as a SA citizen to import one of these. I am skeptical after a scam I was caught up in a couple of years ago with the imports in Durban. I am renting a townhouse in a housing complex in Gaborone which I have on a long term agreement. I am not looking for a 4x4 as I have no need to drive off road and do most driving on highways and in the city. I want this specific car https://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/progres/17144705/ as I drove one in Japan and I was extremly impressed. I dont have any intentions on selling it in SA and I want to register it in Botswana and drive it up and down, I would also like to keep it in SA for the months that I am not up there.
Do I have to be a permanent resident? Do I need to own a property? I cannot register it with a buisness as I do contract work up there and work with multiple companies. Any insight on how to do this is greatly appricated.
