Hey everyone!

Just interested to know if anyone has ever bought from here?stumbled across the website earlier and have been looking at their prices, think maybe the catch is the shipment fee.
http://www.expansys.co.za/

Sweet :)

Yes happened to see the same site recently as well, quick reminder the prices don't include VAT, so add this on first.
They haven't provided any cost information for shipment fees, only specify R0 for own collection... and that wouldn't be practical re UK site...
Even taking standard shipment costs into consideration, they still appear to be cheaper than SA companies. e.g. TREO 600 is R3,845.04 ex shipment, and Incredible Connection is R4999.00, Digitalplanet R4287
No way shipment could be that much...

yup i noticed the prices are vat exclusive but as u say they still work out cheaper than SA stores, and I was looking at the routers and the some of the prices are ridiculously low so I might try them out soon. Will post any info bout their service if I do purchase from them ;)

Import tax

Didn't check out the site, but did you guys keep the import duty in mind that you pay at the post office when collecting the item? It's usually 20-30% plus.

you have to arrange your own shipping from the UK for anything you buy. Stay well clear of this site!!!!!

Why do u say steer clear of the site ScrnScrm?
For cost implications of organising own shipping or for the risks of doing so.

I also requested info a few weeks ago, they said that they do not ship to SA, you hav to arange yourself. If any1 gets right, pls post the route you followed cause they sell cheap

Thats why I'm also interested in them, very well priced stuff!Just need to find out why we must stay clear of the site from Scrnscrm....

Hey
Couple of reasons :
a. The shipping - you pay from their warehouse to your front door.
b. You still have to pay tax and duties - and get all the relevant clearance forms from customs.
c. Difficulty of returning non-operational goods.
d. No warranty
e. i didnt find them particularly cheap. Given all the caveats, i thought they were still rather pricey compared to other sites that do the full monty for you.

Finally - they are camping on the co.za domain registration, and mis-respresenting themselves as having local operations. they have NO local representation at all.

Is there anything specific that you are looking for beeti? I might be able to tell you where to source it from locally at a good price.

Ciao

Thanks for clearing that one up for me srcnscrm :)
I'm looking for a new router(4-port ethernet or maybe wireless) but now that we on the topic I would like to know if its necessary for security reasons to get say a netgear or billion router to replace the marconi router telkom supplied me with.Do the other routers offer better security?coz thats the impression I have got from reading on the forum.

Hi Beeti
I think they are all much of muchness wrt security. The advantage that the netgear/billion/linksys products have is that the routers are much easier to configure, so you will be less likely to make a mistake.
A lot of it depends what you want to do. If there is no reason for anyone to connect to your PC, and you drop all incoming traffic on the external interface, you should be OK with most routers. If you need to allow incoming traffic, thats when it gets tricky - the Marconi is a lot harder to configure correctly.
At the end of the day - if you have the Marconi router already, you might as well stick with it. Just make sure its set up properly :D
Cheers -
