Anyone get this thing working?

Installed Boxee on the PC and got the iPad ... Connected on the same network ... But they don't see each other?

EDIT : Never mind ... instructions aren't great. Trying it again

Still having issues ... I now see the network on the iPad and can share the folders - but see no files within them?

Yep works for me, you have to install iPad app, then desktop app and in the desktop app specify which folders to share.

Yea I did - I see all the folders, but nothing in the folders. Odd.

Gonna try a different machine

Other PC did the same thing :/

Download media manager, point to 'My Music' ... load the iPad app and see the PC, select the 'My Music' ... but it's empty. Every folder I share is the same - can see the folder but not files.

I'm right in saying it doesn't need to be an iMp3, right? ;)
Does this app convert from the other formats?
Or at the worst - I should see the file but it tells me not supported?

have you tried pointing to a folder with regular files, wma, mp3 etc? maybe try create a small folder, drop a few wma's in and try again.

Yea - they were all mp3.

I'll try with movie files tonight.

Thanks!

Guys - there must be something else?

I've just spent the night formatting my PC. All I installed to date was Windows 7 Professional (64 bit), SP1, the few updates it requires after that - and Boxee Media Manager.

I have the same issue : I see the computer on the iPad, I see all the folders shared - but I see no files?
Am I supposed to maybe share those folders or something?

EDIT : After reading one of the comments here http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=40701 saying 'I completely agree - got it set up and thought it was cool to access my movies (but not photos or music???) on my iPad .... I decided to my movies and they all work smoothly - avi, wmv and mkv

UPDATE : Its only for videos .... :(

Just do the homesharing thing, it works extremely well.

Or you can use plex.

Then will give it a go!

You can already stream music from your PC out of the box.

I downloaded and installed boxee but damn it's ugly. I'll stick to air video.

Ok ... setup sharing and I'm getting my music across now :)

I agree it is one very ugly piece of software... Both in looks and operation.

It does what it says on the box, once the video is playing, who cares what the interface looks like?
I quite like the fact that I don't need to import all my video into itunes (unless I'm mistaken about how AirVideo works?).

Gotta love watching series whilst washing the dishes ;)

I'm a mac user, so I do. :)

With air video you only convert and the import into iTunes if you're going to be away from the network and want to load content onto the ipad - otherwise it just streams.

OK, I suppose looks are subjective. Having just looked the screenshots of Airvideo on their site I must say I prefer Boxee's interface.
Couple that with the fact that the Boxee app is free and I'll stick with that ;)

Tastes and usage cases will always differ, hence it's great we have choices.

I found Boxee to be the only app (I tried probably 5 others) for streaming video that plays the video smoothly on my iPad. Everything else I tried was very jerky and juddery. Boxee is great! And it's free. Homesharing works beautifully for streaming music.
