So, here is my dilemma: my contract has been up for renewal / cancellation / migration / whatever for a while now (maybe a year even) and i have just ignored it, hoping it would go away. However, it won't. Understand this - I am not a phone junkie. I use it to send necessary SMSes ("What time will you be here?") and meaningful phonecalls (none of that "No, I love you more. No, you put down first" nonsense).

So I use very very little airtime. And here are my options considering my average and catering for my max usage:
* MTN Off Peak 100 = R1.25/min off peak vs R2.85/min peak
* MTN AnyTime 100 = R2.30/min in-bundle to R2.85 out

Seriously, how is the AnyTime any cheaper, even if you make your calls in peak on the Off Peak package? Is the R2.85 taken from the 100 inclusive value or charged separately? Anyone from MTN who knows the answer - my contacts do not...

:confused: So am I. Was that a question?

My ProCall 120 contract came to an end last month after 2 years, I looked at the new AnyTime packages and couldn't figure it out either. With the old contracts you used to get minutes that you could use any time, now you get a Rand amount and get charged (almost) pre-paid rates. In the end I just cancelled the contract.

For the AnyTime 100, all your phone calls are billed at R2.30 (or R2.35, not sure) per minute while you still have airtime left for the month. After the initial R100 is used up, it switches to R2.85/min. Offpeak, however, charges R1.25/min for all off-peak calls while you still have airtime left. Once you make calls in peak time, or out of bundle off peak, the calls are charged at R2.85/min.

Just remember that airtime on all newer MTN packages are carried over up to 5x your monthly airtime allowance, say R500 for Anytime or Offpeak 100. Also, all calls are billed per second, so you tend to save if you make shorter calls like you've mentioned.

Hi

And also remember that the Rand Value can be used for anything, and not just calls like in the old contracts.

Basically the R100 that you get per month, can be used on voice, data, SMS, MMS.

Regards
DD

Unless you're in need of a new phone why not switch to pay as you go?

Great idea. How? MTN does not seem to allow this...
If you are hung up on your old number, the only way to do this is to port to another network operator, and then after three months port back to MTN pre-paid, otherwise, just get a new pre-paid SIM and a new number.

I am very hung up on my number. I am also not allowed to go to another ISP (professional reasons - I consult to MTN)
