Ok so i was thinking - brain farting like my friends like to say...
Telkom's port shaping is supposedly supposed to protect their network from abuse - right? So that people who use up their cap won't slow down the network when they get stuck on the slow link - right?
Now the new Nov pricing structure is pretty much inevitable. While i don't agree with the prices - the stucture does make it more fair across the board for all users.
But - here it comes - if the new system is based on hard capping... what benefit is port shaping to the whole arrangement. If power users want to use up their whole cap then they will, doesn't really matter what protocol they use. And once the cap is finished they are switched off and not disadvantaging other users in any way.
All this port shaping is actually doing is disavantaging ALL users who need - or want - to use non http/ftp/pop/smtp ports - which in the case of ADSL would (i guess) be 95% of people. Most people use skype, msn mess, irc, game or something sepparate from the basic ports...
